Dental treatment in Turkey from Sweden: the 2026 patient guide

This is the article we would want to read before booking anything. It does not contain a price table, the price pages for Sweden already carry those, city by city. What it does instead is answer the question those tables cannot: for the case you actually have, does travelling from Sweden make sense, and what does the process look like if it does?

The arithmetic changes with the number of units, not the country

High-cost protection helps, but reimbursement follows reference prices rather than invoices, and cosmetic work carries no subsidy at all.

Across the 10 Swedish cities in our dataset the estimated midpoint for one restored implant is €3,070. The same scope at the accredited Istanbul clinics we vet is €770. That is a difference of roughly €2,290 for a single tooth.

• One implant. A gap of about €2,290. Flights, hotel and two trips will usually eat most of it. Treating one tooth at home is normally the sensible answer.
• Three implants. Around €6,880. This is the band where it starts to depend on your own travel costs and how much time off work you can take.
• A full arch. The estimated Swedish median is €29,200 against €9,180 in Istanbul, about €20,000. At this scale the travel stops being a factor in the decision and the questions become clinical ones.

Local figures on this site for Sweden are modelled from the national private fee level and the city spread we measured across UK cities, not collected from Swedish clinics. They tell you the scale, not your quote. Turkish figures are taken from itemised written treatment plans. Where you fly from changes the plan more than where you live

Stockholm, Gothenburg are served without a change on most days. The quickest run in our Swedish set is Malmö at about 3h 5m from CPH.

For implant work the usual shape is two visits: a surgical stay of two to three nights, a healing period of some months, then a restorative stay of five to seven nights. Veneer and crown cases are often a single stay of five to seven nights. Build a spare day into each: moving a flight costs less than leaving before the bite has been checked.

We publish flight times because they follow from distance. We do not publish fares, because they change daily and any figure printed here would be wrong by the time you read it.

How to check a Swedish dentist, and why we will not rank them

Swedish dentists hold a legitimation issued by Socialstyrelsen, and the HOSP register records it. Ask for the legitimation, not for a certificate printed by the clinic itself.

What we will not publish is a ranking of Swedish dentists, or patient ratings for them. We are an Istanbul-based guide; we earn when patients travel. A ranking written by us of the practices you would otherwise use is not evidence, it is marketing, and you should discount it exactly as you would discount any other site that scores its own competitors. The register is objective. The written quote is objective. Those two are what settle it.

The same five questions work in Sweden and in Istanbul: which diagnosis supports each line of the plan; which brand and material will be written down; whether grafting is assumed, excluded or priced separately; how many appointments and try-ins the fee covers; and what the written guarantee covers and what voids it. A clinic that answers those in writing is comparable to another that does. One that will not is not comparable at any price.

Where Sweden sits internally

Within our Swedish data the spread between cities is smaller than most patients expect: Jönköping is the highest at €3,350 and Västerås the lowest at €2,830, a national range of about 19%. That is far narrower than the gap to Istanbul in every one of them, which is why the decision is almost never between two Swedish cities. It is between treating at home and treating abroad.

What has to come home with you

This is the part patients under-plan and the part that decides whether the work is maintainable. Before you leave Istanbul you should be holding: the written treatment plan, the implant brand and component references, the prosthetic material, post-operative radiographs, the guarantee terms and a named contact. With that documentation any competent Swedish dentist can examine and maintain the work. Without it, they are guessing, and a dentist who is guessing will usually, and reasonably, advise replacing rather than repairing.

Routine maintenance happens where you live. Book the check-up and hygiene appointments with a Swedish dentist exactly as you would after treatment at home, and do not let the fact that the work was done abroad turn into a reason to skip them. The overwhelming majority of long-term failures in dentistry, in any country, grow quietly in the gaps between missed appointments.

The honest summary for Swedish patients

For a check-up, a filling or a single crown: stay home. For one implant: probably stay home, unless you were travelling anyway. For multiple implants, a full arch or a multi-unit cosmetic case: the gap is €20,000 on a full arch, and at that size it deserves a serious comparison of two written plans rather than a decision made from an advertisement.
